Congressional Round-up
There are several items to note around the state for various Congressional races that I thought I would throw together in one post. David Kinkade used to do this back when he was a blogger.
Halter Bashing – Incumbent Democrat Rep. Marion Berry (AR-1) may be retiring but he is not letting that stop him from making his opinions known. Today, he endorsed Sen. Blanche Lincoln at a rally in Brinkley. It is no surprise with Halter bashing that Berry started back in February.
Anti-Small Business – Democrat Patrick Kennedy (AR-2) has some of the most entertaining tweets of any of the candidates in the state. It is pretty clear he writes them himself and does not go through any sort of consultant. Today, he tweets “Great meeting today w/ small business owners. Clearly they disagreed with my views, but appreciated me listening.” It has since been deleted.
Heather Has Two Mommies U.S. Census Edition – Republican State Sen. Cecile Bledsoe takes issue with an ad campaign from the U.S. Census directed towards same-sex couples. “I oppose the Census Bureau’s ad campaign encouraging same-sex couples to report that they are ‘married’, or ‘husband or wife’ on their Census forms,” Bledsoe said, “I oppose the campaign not only because it’s an improper message, but because it’s an incredible waste of taxpayer dollars.”
Womack According to Womack – Republican Rogers Mayor Steve Womack has an internal poll which shows him with a sizable lead in an eight way race. The results show that the largest group of voters – 34% - are undecided while 31% prefer Womack, 12% prefer Bledsoe, 11% Gunner DeLay, 5% Mike Moore, and 3% Gen. Bernie Skoch. No one else got over 1%. I am told another poll may be coming soon from an independent source so we will see how this matches up.
Huckabee Hearts Rankin – Former Gov. Mike Huckabee rounded out his endorsement in all four Congressional districts with the district where he grew up by endorsing Republican Beth Anne Rankin. “I have watched her as she successfully navigated a varied career path through entertainment, politics, government service, and small business,” wrote Huckabee. “In all of those endeavors, she has excelled and proven her tenacity for the tough tasks.” These endorsements will be the subject of my Sunday column. I am sure you are tingling with anticipation.

[...] Jim Keet for Governor. I did mention the Womack poll in passing in a somewhat snarky post called “Womack according to Womack.” I think even a causal reader of that post would realize this was an internal push [...]
