Baker Campaign Highlights Support of Rep. Rick Green

In an interesting move the day before the expected Senate announcement of Rep. John Boozman, State Sen. Gilbert Baker’s Senate Campaign pushed out a story from The City Wire of Fort Smith highlighting the support of Rep. Rick Green.

“As far as I can determine Congressman Boozman does plan to enter the race later this week. He is polling great against Sens Lincoln but so are some other already announced candidates,” Green said in the article. “I have committed to support State Sen. Gilbert Baker (R-Conway) and I will keep my word in that support as long as State Senator Baker remains a viable candidate.”

Green has also said that he will consider running for the Third Congressional District if Rep. Boozman gets in the Senate race but that is not the only reason it is interesting that the Baker Campaign is pushing his support. Green was heavily criticized by fellow Republicans during this past legislative session and was often viewed as the “Arlen Specter” of the Arkansas State House for his consistent siding with the Democratic caucus particularly on the tobacco tax increase. Rep. Green’s support does not help the image of Sen. Gilbert Baker as a moderate state legislator; therefore, I wonder why they are spending this one around.

It’s because Baker’s ONLY supporters are legislators and insiders doing so out of loyalty or obligation. A LOT of obligation I’ve been told by a few.

Former office holder. Former chairman. Raised a lot of money from the party faithful. Hired the best staff. Campaign sputtered out.

    Joke of a campaign.

Z – I don’t think I would go that far but the Green support is an odd one to be sending around.

Is Green the same Representative who was one of a very few Republicans who stood up to the Governor and voted AGAINST the Severance Tax? I think so. Was Green the only Republican who successfully sponsored legislation to curb illegal immigration? I think so. Was Green the Representative who sponsored legislation to strengthen property rights? I think so. So, Green must be the same Representative who saw the cigarette tax as a way of recovering the lost tax dollars already being spent on health matters brought on by smoking and earmarking this money for entitites who lacked funded due to a drain on revenue caused by smokers. The cigarette tax vote wasn’t about whether to pass a tax or not it was about Republicans trying to block an issue. Where was this Republican block on the severance tax? Where was the Republican block on the milk tax? I guess the rules don’t apply in all instances.

    Yawn.

So which of these two career politicians is compromising conservatism?

Baker finding someone who voted against his severance tax increase? Or is it Arkansas’ Arlen Specter, I mean Green?

    Throw them ALL out!

Very interesting…..so what does “viable” really mean. Let’s face it, in reality there are no candidates yet. The RPA and media have decided that we will be cacusing this year. Why else raise the filing fee and continue to suggest that the polls include all of those stating intentions of paying the filing fees…..hmmmm seems to me that if there were no filing fee, the almighty committee might evoke more trust from the people of our great state and there would be plenty of money to “put into supporting the candidates”. But I digress….what kind of backhanded endorsement is “as long as he is a viable candidate”, if he is no longer top of the food chain, does that change Mr. Baker’s “viability”? The filing fee has not been paid by any “announced” candidate as far as I know so all of this uproar is smoke and mirrors for the real issues which no one thus far in my opinion has addressed. Specifics……how do you fix it so my grandchildren don’t speak Mandarin Chinese? Always follow the money…..if it aint paid for it aint happenin’! Please Mr. Green, my bassett hound doesn’t want your endorsement….

Rick Green is a RINO. Could it be any more obvious that Baker is too??
