Randy Alexander Could Be the Ninth Republican Senate Candidate
An absurdly crowded Republican field for the nomination for U.S. Senate could get a bit more crowded this week as Randy Alexander from Fayetteville will make some sort of announcement on Tuesday. An email sent to area tea party activists this past week says that Alexander will be making a “new candidate announcement” on Tuesday, January 12 and lists him as a “Candidate for U.S. Senate.”
Alexander confirms to me that the announcement is correct but declined to comment further until Tuesday. He did also clarify that the announcement will take place at the Mockingbird Room at the Fayetteville Town Center at 5:30 Tuesday evening.
Alexander works for the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville as Director of Student Housing and is active in the Washington County TEA Party.

I now have a better shot at naming every delegate in the Arkansas Legislature than Senate Candidates.

Will the RPA raise the filing fee to try and narrow the field because of all the candidates? If they do is that a good thing or will it backfire and be looked on as playing favorites?

Dear Lord! Please no!!!

He works for the U of A (the state) managing their state subsidized student housing? How does he take his mouth of the government teat long enough to sip tea?

LOL @nick. I think the party should raise the filing fee. This is the most absurd political race I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen my fair share). THERE ARE OTHER OFFICES THAT HAVE VACANCIES/NEED CONSERVATIVE LEADERSHIP PEOPLE!!!!

Really? I mean Really? Who is this guy? Half the guys running for Senate no one has ever heard of….. It’s like they woke up one morning and thought “Hey, I think I’ll run for Senate”. Never ran for office before, can’t raise money, three people know them and they want to run for Senate…… Really?
The founding fathers were, for the most part, wealthy land owners who financed their own campaigns and lost money while they were in office and not attending to their estates or business affairs. Very few Senators or Congressmen since the founding of our county have been your “average joe”.
It takes years of building name recognition and the ability to either self fund or raise at least a few million dollars to win a race at this level.
Long gone are the days of unlimited soft money coming from the party organizations. These organizations are limited to what they can directly give a candidate….. They Can’t Raise Your Money For You!
The national Republican Organizations are all broke, and won’t be able to put lot’s of resources into the race even if it is a targeted race.
Somebody needs to run for State Auditor. There are plenty of other races that we can use some good candidates in.

If he joins this race he loses my respect, just like half the candidates who won’t get out.

Teddy Republican….good points….especially about the founders. We definately need a return to that. What we don’t hear enough about is the responsibility of the voters to find out everything they can about each candidate and then vote. There are 7 men who have been in the race for quite some time and to their credit, they have kept the race about issues, not about mudslinging. Congratulations to those campaigns. I will vote for Fred Ramey because of his ideals and character. I will support Fred Ramey because his campaign is being run much like that of the founders. You should check out his website, as well as the other candidates, and see for yourself. The voters have a responsibility in this too. We shouldn’t forget that the 3 people who still like Blanche Lincoln were enough to get her to run for reelection….

Yeah,I’m glad for another choice! Apparently Blanche won’t be going back to DC!! At least this won’t be like the last election where the Republicans didn’t even OFFER us a choice! I think they’re in trouble too!
‘WE THE PEOPLE’ are waking up and taking notice! ‘WE THE PEOPLE’ need to take responsibility for the folks we send to DC. I want someone who will represent ME not big money. I plan to vote for a non-politician who has some accountability back to me, the voter.

I don’t know what you mean about Ramey’s campagin being run like the founders. I assume he is taking donations just like everyone else. The Jefferson – Adams campaigns had perhaps more mudslinging than any campaign I’ve every studied or witnessed.

The founding Fathers statements, ideas and values PLUS $25,000 gets you heard by the candidate or the party. Otherwise, it’s great that pixels are free.

Hopefully Randy won’t run as an independent. While it is obviously his right to do so, it would be detrimental to the conservative effort.
January 11th, 2010 at 11:25 pm
WOW….let see who else could possibly run….seriously 9 candidates for the same position….thats insane.
January 12th, 2010 at 7:04 am
If after the primary all these senate candidates vow to vote republican, I think we have the election locked.

I only know that one or maybe two of these can win east Ar.If you can win the delta you will win the state.Go Conservative 2011.Dont be alarmed at all the candidates theyll drop like flies when Blanche Growls

“Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.” Some need to accept this!

Randy is purely running as a CONSTITUTIONAL supporter. He declaired in his announcement that he will not bow down to the party, will judge legislation by the constitutionality first, and fight to reverse the spending trend. He pledges to NOT take pork (arkansas will have to leave the good ole’ boy system). McCain (I don’t like the man) hasn’t taken pork and Arizona is doing fine.

Rebell Yell needs to gets his facts straight before he mouths off. The Student Housing department at the U of A Fayetteville is NOT state funded. It operates completely on revenues generated by housing operations. It is considered an auxiliary unit of the University. I know this because I am the Fiscal Officer for the the Division of Student Affairs, which Housing is under. Mr. Alexander does an excellent job of managing this complex unit and staying within budget–I, for one, would like to see someone in DC with his skill set. Also, there is nothing wrong with working for the government…it is necessary to have intelligent and talented people running our government. The problem is when governmental employees (which all our elected officials are) become an elite class ignoring the will of the people and throwing off the constraints of our Constitution.
