RPA Senate Straw Poll – UPDATE 1,200 Tickets Sold
Details will soon be firming up on the U.S. Senate straw poll organized by the Republican Party of Arkansas. All seven announced candidates will be participating and are drawing for ballot and speaking order at noon today. Republican Congressional candidate Rick Crawford will be master of ceremonies for the event.
Today is the last day to purchase tickets required for voting which are being sold by the RPA in block of ten at $15 a piece. If you would like to buy some tickets but don’t have $150 or nine friends, RPA executive director Chase Dugger tells me that they are working to match up smaller groups if possible. But the deadline is 4:00 today (Wednesday) so you better call fast if you want some. Otherwise, I am sure some willing candidates just might have one for you on Saturday. Also, note that the members of the state committee will all get a ticket with their registration for the meeting that morning.
I will post more details on this event here between now and the straw poll which is this Saturday at the Arlington Hotel in Hot Springs. Here is the full schedule…
RPA State Committee Meeting ————- 10:00am – 12:00pm
U.S. Senate Candidate Speeches ———– 12:30pm – 2:00pm
Straw Poll Voting —————————– 2:00pm – 3:00pm
RPA Grassroots Training ——————– 2:30pm – 3:30pm
Announcing of Straw Poll Results ———- 3:45pm – 4:15pm
UPDATE – Final tally on tickets sold was 1,200. This means no more than this number plus the roughly 350 members of the state committee will cast votes for their favorite candidate. Speaking and ballot order for the straw poll are Col. Conrad Reynolds, Sen. Gilbert Baker, Fred Ramey, Buddy Rogers, Curtis Coleman, Sen. Kim Hendren, and Tom Cox. Top two winners will give speeches afterwards.

Jason,
I think you meant to say members of the “state” committee will get a ticket with their registration instead of “executive”.
Tolbert – Thanks. I always seem to get that mixed up. I fixed it.

Just keeping you on your toes.

It is highly unlikely that 350 members of the State Committee will show up.
If it is over 100, I’ll be surprised. Getting folks there is like pulling teeth.
