Video: Bill Halter on MSNBC Sounding Very Much Like a Senate Candidate
Arkansas Lieutenant Governor Bill Halter was on MSNBC last night discussing the free health clinic in Little Rock this coming Saturday. The Arkansas politico types are all a buzz if he will be soon jumping in the race for U.S. Senate. Some say he will get in if Sen. Blanche Lincoln votes against the health care reform bill. While others say it is just a ploy to try and put further pressure on Sen. Lincoln by threatening a creditable primary opponent.
“If I was to summarize where Arkansans are, they really want action,” said Halter in the MSNBC interview. “They are growing very impatient with all the talk. They want to see reform. This has been on the political agenda for the Democratic Party for literally decades. A President from our home state made valiant attempts to push forward health care reform, as you know well Lawrence in 1994. And there is a belief that now is finally the opportunity to get a great thing done, to do what we have been trying to do for decades, which is to correct many of the significant problems that we have in our health care delivery system.”
When asked directly if he plans to challenge Sen. Lincoln he gave the artful dodge. “I certainly appreciate the hopes that a lot of people have expressed for me but I want to focus on what we are doing on Saturday. This is not about politics. It is certainly not about me political future.”
Notice he did not say no. Is he in or out? What you think?

Halter needs to stop talking about what he thinks Arkansans want; he’s not even close. He’s also perpetuating the “45 million uninsured” myth (http://spectator.org/archives/2009/03/20/the-myth-of-the-46-million). I’m getting really sick of Democrats getting away with this blatant misrepresentation of the facts.

So if Halter runs for Senate, then what? Does Wills or Broadway try to fill the Lt. Gov spot for the D’s? Do the R’s have a credible candidate in Darr?

It wouldn’t surprise me if Broadway jumps into the Lt. Gov. race. Wills, on the other hand, wants Gilbert Baker’s state senate seat.
Mark Darr is a great man. I will be voting for him.

If she fails to be a Democrat the one time that it means anything then by all means she will receive a challenger and she will be toast. Double for Leiberman. Landrieux and Nelson too.
