New Poll Shows Vic Snyder is Vulnerable
Public Policy Polling conducted a political survey last week which reveals trouble for Rep. Vic Snyder in his bid for reelection. In potential head to head match ups with his three announced Republican opponents, Snyder was in a statistical dead heat with relative unknowns. Little Rock attorney Tim Griffin matched up the best trialing Snyder by only one point at 44% to 43%, followed by Little Rock restaurateur Scott Wallace at 44% to 42%, and Conway propane truck driver David Meeks at 45% to 42%.
But perhaps the most troubling result for Snyder is that his approval rating trends much closer with President Barack Obama than with Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe. Gov. Beebe’s approval rating remains sky high with 70% approving and only 20% disapproving on his job performance while President Obama’s approval is 41% with 42% disapproval. Rep. Snyder’s numbers are also dismal with only 36% approving with his job performance and 45% disapproving.
This trend seems to indicate that Arkansas voters currently associate Snyder more with their anti-Washington sentiment and not with the somewhat more insulated local political view that they have afforded him in the past. Perhaps this could be a reflection of the district’s disapproval of Rep. Snyder’s vote for the health care bill a week before the poll was conducted. When asked, 55% of those surveyed said they disapproved of the health care bill while only 32% supported the measure.

If anti-Washington is what we need Tim Griffin isn’t it.

36% approval means Synder is not going to enjoy going out for dinner in Little Rock any time soon. I guess that is what happens when you start thinking you are smarter than all the voters in your district. By the way, very hard for any politician to recover from these sort of numbers. Especially as unemployment is only going to continue into next year. I almost feel bad for Vic. By the way you have to check out Blake Rutherford spinning as hard as he can on his blog… too funny.

Have you ever thought about going to politics Mr. Tolbert Report?

Tim Griffin would be a reliable conservative vote in Congress, regardless of his ties to Washington. It’s fallacious to assume that just because he’s worked for the federal government, he’s somehow not a conservative and wouldn’t vote our values.

JS Tim Griffin’s negatives will prevent him from ever going to Congress. He claims to be a big wheel in the White House when Bush was breaking all of Clinton’s big spending records, bailing out Wall Street and crimes assosicated with ties to lobbyists were killing our party.
Tim plotted to get Bud Cummins fired and him appointed under an emergency provision of the Patriot Act. There was no emergency, this is what you call abuse of power for personal ambition. It is not what we need in a nominee for congress.
I know who Vic Snyder wants to run against, and that is Tim Griffin.

I agree with Taser Jake. We finally have a chance to beat Vic Snyder for the first time ever. His approval ratings have never been this low in 14 years. We will blow this once in a lifetime opportunity if we nominate Griffin. The Snyder people will destroy Griffin based on the Bud Cummins firing and replacing mess. So sad that we may waste this once in a lifetime opportunity to elect a conservative to Congress because we pick the one guy with negatives.
My 2 cents

Tonight I did a lot of research on the Republican Candidates runining to oppose Vic. First of all let me say they all seem like good individuals and solid Repubicans. I once was on the staff of a Republican running against Vic. I think the party had better keep looking for the right candidate. While they seem like good people from what I read about them I dont think they are up to the challenge. This is the Republican chance to beat Arkansas’s most liberal politician we need to make sure we have the right candidate. We need someone with some state senate or state representative experience. If you are out there and thinking of running now would be the time. The ideal Candidate would have one an election or two in the district and have a fundraising network to pull from. Dismang up in White county would make a great candidate. He is a state rep and he has a nice record coming out of the legislative session.

Heather, do you think Clinton’s spending would have been different had he had this Pelosi congress to do his bidding, instead of the Gingrich congress that dragged him kicking and screaming toward welfare reform?

I didnt know the comedy hour had begun. I will say that Clinton tax policy is not as bad as what we have in the White House now.
