Tom Cotton May Be Looking to Congress Instead of Senate (UPDATE – Will Not Run)

TomCottonMultiple sources are confirming that Tom Cotton may be considering running for Congress in the Second Congressional District to challenge incumbent Democrat Rep. Vic Snyder. Cotton had been considered by many to be a probable candidate for the U.S. Senate race against Sen. Blanche Lincoln however with up to six announced Republican candidates for that race alone, the field has quickly become crowded.

Cotton is still active duty military so any talk of him running is mere speculation by his supporters at this point; however, although military regulations may prevent Cotton from talking, they cannot stop Republicans from gossiping. These rumors come on the heels of former U.S. Attorney and Bush adviser Tim Griffin’s announcement that he plans to pursue a race against Rep. Vic Snyder as well. Could Griffin’s move today been to pre-empt a Cotton announcement while Cotton is unable to be engage politically?

If Cotton does announce for the Congressional race, it would probably be sometime next week and central Arkansas could see as many as four candidates in the Republican Primary for Congress with Cotton, Griffin, Bruno’s Little Italy owner Scott Wallace and political newcomer David Meeks. This could be interesting.

UPDATE – Although he gave this serious consideration, it appears he decided not to run.  This new comes on the heels of Tim Griffin and Scott Wallace announcing they will join David Meeks in the 2nd Congressional Race.

So we are assuming that Cotton would run in the 2nd District?

  2. Jason Says:

NH – That is the rumor. Again, it is all speculation at this point.

  3. Brett Says:

His home is in the Second District.

  4. Barbara Says:

I think you have the districts wrong. I’ve heard he may run against Boozeman, and that would be the “third” district.

  5. Jason Says:

Tom Cotton lives in the second district. I feel 99-4/100% sure he will not run against Boozman.

  6. Brett Says:

Jason’s right. He lives in the 2nd and has no desire to run against Congressman Boozman.

  7. FortSmithRepublican Says:

Any word on whether he will challenge Trevor Drown for leadership of his Internet minions?

  8. N.H. Says:

Seems unlikely to me that he would run in a 3-way primary while Ross is still unopposed.

  9. Jason Says:

Call me crazy but I think people should run in the Congressional District in which they live.

  10. N.H. Says:

    Crazy! lol

  11. N.H. Says:

I tend to agree, but if we’re going to go with that, then Cotton should run for something else. We already have 2 strong conservatives in the 2nd District. A 3-way primary is going to spread them too financially thin if we are going to beat the formidable Snyder. There are a lot of Constitutional offices that are currently unopposed…

  12. Barbara Says:

Cotton and Timothy Griffin are friends so I cannot see them running against each other. However, politics makes “strange” friendships.

Exactlt the way Conrad felt, right before Baker slipped the knife into his back and announced, he would run.

[...] so all that business about U.S. Army Capt. Tom Cotton running for U.S. Senate, or maybe the Second District Congressional seat? Uh, yeah, so, not so much. Word is he won’t be running for anything after all. OK, moving [...]
