Matthew Shephard Announces Bid for House Seat District 6

MattShepherdEl Dorado native and lifelong resident, Matthew Shepherd today announced his intention to run for the Arkansas House of Representatives from District 6 – which includes El Dorado and parts of Union County.

In front of a crowd at the Union County Courthouse, Shepherd, an El Dorado attorney, said that he was entering the race because the people of District 6 deserve strong representation and decisive leadership in the Arkansas Legislature. Shepherd said, “This is a critical time for El Dorado and Union County. Jobs are few and taxes are many, but together we can shape a bright future for our District. I have decided to run for office because we deserve a Representative who will take your voices to Little Rock and work to ensure Union County and El Dorado remain an economic leader and a desirable place to live.”

Shepherd acknowledged that his upbringing played a role in his decision to enter the race. He said, “As the son of a judge and a public school teacher, I understand the sacrifice and heavy responsibility involved in public service, and I am up to the task. As a lifelong resident, active member of the community and experienced attorney dealing with the results of the legislative process, my experiences will serve me well as I work to best serve you, the people of District 6. I would consider it a great honor to represent each of you in Little Rock.”

Shepherd stated that while jobs and economic development are critical immediate concerns, he outlined the three other objectives that he hoped to work towards: creating greater efficiency in state government, upgrading infrastructure particularly the state’s highway system and improving the quality of public education. He said, “As a region and a state we can expect to be competitive in the twenty-first century if we begin to address the core issues at the foundation of providing quality jobs for the future.”

hd6Matthew Shepherd is a husband, a father of three and a civic leader who will aggressively fight for District 6, and work to create a more efficient state government, upgrade infrastructure, and improve the quality of education that will allow Union County and Arkansas to be competitive in the global marketplace.

  1. John Brown Says:

That’s a solid Democratic district down there. He doesn’t have the votes to win. Half the staffers for his Democratic opponent are Republicans — he can’t even pull together his own party, especially with empty promises like these.

  2. The Rock Says:

Matt Shephard is a good man… he has a lot of support. Too bad John Brown doesn’t know what he is talking about. Where do these folks come from that post on here Jason… too funny. Matt will win that seat.
