What’s Gilbert Baker Up To?

BakerNoA lot of Republicans have been curiously asking themselves this question -  what exactly is State Senator Gilbert Baker up to? Not only is it puzzling as to whether he will run for U.S. Senate but it is uncertain what role he is playing in the campaigns of others.

Baker’s name was one of the first names that popped up back in February as a possible Republican challenger to Sen. Lincoln. Then by the middle of the summer, the tone had changed among his supporters. “He not running,” one supporter confided, saying that he does not want to move his family to Washington. Understandable. But now these same supporters are telling me he is now considering jumping back in.

Add to the confusion the frequent meetings with possible challengers. Max Brantley reported that Baker had “a sitdown” with Curtis Coleman shortly before he announced yesterday. Sources also tell me that he also broke bread with Tom Cotton who is also rumored to be soon jumping in the Senate race as well.

But I am told what could possible be the oddest connection will occur tonight in Conway. Retired United States Army Colonel Conrad Reynolds plans to formally announce his candidacy for the U.S. Senate in Conway’s Simon Park at 6:00. According to sources connected to Reynold, Sen. Baker will be the man who introduces him tonight.

So what exactly is Sen. Baker up to? I have no idea.
