Twitter Rumor Redux: Is Tim Griffin Running for Congress?

griffin21Long-term Tolbert Report readers will recall that this blog first broke the story back in December that former U.S. District Attorney Tim Griffin was considering running for the U.S. Senate against Sen. Blanche Lincoln. My source – twitter.

Well, twitter has come through for me again on Griffin’s next possible plans. Griffin has backed away from the U.S. Senate talk but perhaps another opportunity has presented itself. Tonight, ABC White House correspondent Jake Tapper took a break from asking the President questions to ask Griffin on twitter “you gonna run against Ross?”

Griffin replied several minutes later “There’s a lot of unhappy folks in the 4th District. I hear from them.”

Blue Dog Democrat Rep. Mike Ross has been in the center of President Obama’s health care proposal over the last tapperseveral weeks. He had lead several Blue Dogs in blocking the proposal but late this week reached a compromise that primarily reduced overall costs and provided more benefits to rural areas such as in the fourth district. The bill passed the House Energy and Commerce Committee by a vote of 31 to 28 with Ross voting in favor of its passage.

When asked for a responce, Griffin told the Tolbert Report, “I hear a lot of anger from the 4th District over Mike Ross’ vote for more taxes, more debt and more government involvement in our health care system. He had a chance to stand up to the liberals like Pelosi and Waxman and be a hero. Instead, he caved.”

Could a creditable opponent such as Griffin put pressure on Ross to reconsider his support for the health care proposal? We will see.

Run Tim! Run! The 4th district desperately needs someone who will represent the people and not Pelosi and Obama. Ross definitely doesn’t reflect the views and values of the people of the 4th district.

Mike Ross has the 4th locked up tight. He represents the people and they are very satisfied with him. Griffin wouldn’t have a chance.

[...] At what point will the blogosphere and Twittersphere give up the idea that former Kark Rove acolyte and US Attorney Tim Griffin is running for anything. First Jake Tapper of ABC News fires off a tweet to Mr. Griffin asking him whether his comments regarding Arkansas congressman Mike Ross were indicative of Mr. Griffin’s interest in the race. He responded, naturally, non-committal. This, of course, got the attention of super blogger Jason Tolbert who monitors the twittersphere with bat-like precision. He updated his blog accordingly.
