Mark Darr Kicks Off His Campaign for Lieutenant Governor

Rogers Restauranter Mark Darr began his campaign for Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas this past Sunday afternoon with a fundraiser at Larry’s Pizza West in Little Rock. A crowd of around hundred showed up to meet Darr and eat pizza at his restaurant out Highway 10, including Republican regulars such as Timothy Hutchinson and Stephens columnist David Sanders.

“I am really impressed by the crowd that turned out today,” Darr told the Tolbert Report. “I got to meet a lot of people and was really encouraged by some of their statements.”

“One of the reasons I am running is that I feel like state government is too big,” Darr went on to say. “I feel like there is no accountability in the tax dollars that we spend and we need to have some accountability for our tax dollars.” He later went on to tell me he liked the Open Checkbook Bill proposed by Rep. Dan Greenberg in the previous legislative session to put all the state’s expense online in a searchable database.

He also said he would be discussing issues of protecting traditional families as well as the state lottery. “I don’t think 60% of the people would have voted for the lottery if they had known the salaries were going to be as big as they are. I think that is why people are upset right now because they think they weren’t told the whole truth.”

(Tolbert Disclosure – Darr is a former classmate of mine from Ouachita Baptist University and I gave a small financial contribution to his campaign.)
