Rep. Carter: U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s “First Class Butt Kissing” of Sen. Lincoln

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce ran a half page ad in today’s Arkansas Democrat Gazette praising Sen. Blanche Lincoln for opposing the Employee Free Choice Act. The ads timing is the same day that trade groups plan a march to the state capital to try and persuade her to vote for it. The Chamber’s ad reads:
“Thank you Sen. Lincoln for standing up for workers’ rights and Arkansas jobs.”
“When Washington politician and labor unions tried the pass the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) – taking away workers’ secret ballot rights and putting government bureaucrats in charge of Arkansas’ workplaces – Senator Blanche Lincoln said ‘No.’ “
Now, Washington politicians are trying to cut a backroom deal to get ECFA passed and Senator Lincoln is standing firm. She knows that workers deserve a private vote, and that giving federal arbitrators the power to dictate wages and work rules would wipe out jobs that Arkansas desperately needs.”
It did not take long for Arkansas Republican leaders to react to this ad. Rep. Davy Carter, who at one time was rumored to be considering a run to challenge Sen. Lincoln, fired off on twitter this morning.
“I can’t believe the chamber ran the Sen. Lincoln ad on page 6a of the Dem-Gaz today,” wrote Carter. “After all her back-and- forth on the issue this looks like a first-class butt kissing to me. The people of Arkansas will see right through it.”
UPDATE - Rep. Carter apologized for the language in his remarks but stood firmly by his message telling the Tolbert Report, “I shouldn’t have used that particular phrase but for the ad to imply she has been a staunch opponent of card check? Give me a break.”
