Matthew Shepherd of El Dorado Eyes House District 6
El Dorado attorney Matthew Shepherd confirmed to the Tolbert Report today that he is considering running for the Arkansas House of Representatives from District 6. The current State Representative John Lowery is termed limited. The district has traditionally sent Democrats to the Capitol including the legendary Jodie Mahony; however, Shepherd said he felt good about his chances to pick up the seat for the Republicans. He said he was not aware of anyone else who is planning to run for the seat but that he is looking forward to a good campaign.
Shepherd practices law in his hometown at the law firm Compton, Prewett, Thomas & Hickey. He is also chairman of the Union County Republican Party. Shepherd also said that he is regular reader of the Tolbert Report so you know he is certainly well informed on all the aspects of Arkansas politics. Other state candidates would be well advised to follow Shepherd’s example.
In the interest of full disclosure, Shepherd graduated Ouachita Baptist University with me back in 1998. If I recall correctly, he was a fellow history major and made much better grades than me.

As a former professor of Mr. Shepherd’s, I can confirm everything positive said about him by Mr. Tolbert, and am sure he will win this race. Union County is exactly the kind of place that Republicans should have been winning all these years, and will start to win with excellent candidates such as Matt.

Matthew Shepard is an incredible person. I think it’s what El Dorado needs at this time. I wish I was living down there to help him. He has a wonderful family and would be great representative in the legislature.

Matthew possess more integrity and intelligence than most people I have ever been associated with. As a Democrat, I would vote for him despite the R beside his name if I lived in his district. Matthew is one of those rare genuine articles to enter the political arena.
