Video: Gilbert Baker on whether he is running for U.S. Senate

I caught up with Sen. Gilbert Baker today at the state capital after the first meeting of the Blue Ribbon Committee of Highway Finance and had a chance to get him in front of the Tolbert Report flip cam.  I asked Sen. Baker if the reports that he is “leaning towards” running for the U.S. Senate are accurate.

Sen. Baker tells the Tolbert Report that he is “more open” to running for the U.S. Senate against incumbent Senator Blanche Lincoln. “There are some serious questions that need to be asked about the role of Federal Government in our lives – tax and spending control. There are questions about this whole secret ballot issue related to unionization.” He said that there is no timeline on when he will make a decision, but feels strongly that “someone needs to be asking these questions.”

We also discussed the state constitutional amendment that he is sponsoring dealing with the secret ballot for unions in Arkansas.  “Let the union try to organize if they want to but our workers in Arkansas should have the right to a secret ballot when they make that decision,” said Baker.

[...] Run, Gilbert, Run: State Sen. Gilbert Baker is reconsidering a Republican bid for the U.S. Senate in 2010. Well, no shit kidding. State Sen. Kim Hendren is burnt toast, and with Mr. Snyder comfy in his House seat (for now) Mr. Baker’s got no other political play. Arkie blogger Jason Tolbert continues his hot streak with an exclusive interview. [...]
