Curtis Coleman Files Exploratory Committee for U.S. Senate

colemanCQ Politics is reporting that Curtis Coleman of SafeFoods Corporation in North Little Rock is testing the waters for a Senate run in 2010, filing an exploratory committee earlier this week.  I bumped into Coleman last week at lunch in Little Rock and tried to fish out of him if he was considering running.  He did not bite and stuck instead to talking about his business.  My association with Coleman goes quite a ways back to the days when Coleman was a Southern Baptist evangelist.  He left the ministry during the 1990’s and now works as CEO for SafeFoods Corporation.

Coleman’s is often tied to Gov. Mike Huckabee as he headed up Huckabee’s U.S. Senate run in 1992 against incumbent Sen. Dale Bumpers.  It is unclear if Huckabee will return the favor and support Coleman in his Senate run.

It also remains to be seen whether several much more high profile and viable candidates such as Sen. Gilbert Baker or Tim Griffin will enter the race.  I have spoken with each of them recently and they both tell me that they are still seriously considering the decision.
