Arkansas Young Republicans Disavow State Senator Kim Hendren’s Comments
The Arkansas Young Republicans released the following statement this evening…
The Arkansas Young Republicans were shocked to learn of Senator Kim Hendren’s comments as reported by The Tolbert Report this morning. We abhor the use anti-Semitic and derogatory personal attacks. Racism has no place in this day in age-in politics, in business, or in our hearts.
Republicans and Arkansans have enough of a challenge surmounting dated, backwards stereotypes, and Hendren’s comments are a step in the opposite direction from everything young conservatives believe. True leaders must step up and restore our image at home and across the nation. We need people of all faiths to unite to provide checks and balances to Congressional Democrats and the Obama Administration-people who will stop reckless spending in Washington. The United States and Arkansas need leaders whom will hold themselves accountable, not hold archaic prejudices.

Someone needs to tell the Arkansas Young Republicans that Jews are not a race, and attacks on Jews thus are not racist.
Their disavowal of the comments is welcome, however.

Certainly no offense intended. In the 1980s, the United States Supreme Court ruled that Jews are a race, at least for purposes of certain anti-discrimination laws.

Why do people have to be so sensitive about their nationality? I’m Scots/Irish with a few other nationalities. I wouldn’t object if someone referred to me as “that Irishman”! I prefer to be known as an American, but take no offense to my ancestery. And since the subject of the comment didn’t seem to take offence, why should everyone else jump on it?
