Sen. Lincoln Against Card Check – At Least for Today (UPDATE – Comment from Lincoln)
Arkansas Business is reporting the Sen. Blanche Lincoln said at the Political Animals Club in Little Rock that she is now against check card. An unnamed source at the lunch informs me that she was careful to say that she is against it “in its present form” which leaves the door open for her to change her mind yet again if a compromise bill is hammered out.
No word yet for the Lincoln camp as to why she changed her mind since co-sponsoring the ECFA in 2004. I think the folks pictured above just might ask for an explanation. Dare I suggest that it might be affected by her re-election campaign coming up next year?
UPDATE – I am still not on Sen. Lincoln’s list so I will refer you again to Arkansas Business for the full statement from Sen. Lincoln. Highlight…
“While I may not have been clear about my position in the past, I am stating today that I cannot support Employee Free Choice Act in its current form and I can’t support efforts to bring it to Senate consideration in its current form. I will consider alternatives that have the support of both business and labor but my pledge today is to focus my full attention on the priorities I have mentioned that affect every working family in Arkansas.”

Senator Lincoln is playing politics!
Card Ceck is dead in committee and she knows it. So saying I’m against it “in it’s current form” means nothing. It’s not on the Senate floor so she does not have to back up her bold new position with a vote on the bill.
She is up for re-election and this gets her a lot of political clout in AR “today”.
You can bet that when it comes out of committee some day – not anytime soon – she will state how labor and business have put thier heads together and created a better bill – so she can reavaluate her position.
I’m not buying into her political rhetoric!
