Mike Huckabee on the Iowa Court Ruling on Gay Marriage

Gov. Mike Huckabee release the following statement this afternoon regarding the Iowa Supreme Court Ruling on gay marriage…
I wanted to get this news to you immediately. The Iowa Supreme Court, in a unanimous decision, struck at the heart of the family in Iowa and indeed in the whole country. The ruling, which, will be viewed as a victory for the gay rights movement, should instead, be viewed as an attack on the traditional family as recognized in this country. It is a sad day for Iowa and for the country
Now, because of the ruling by the Iowa Supreme Court, gay couples can legally marry in Iowa beginning April 24.
And Iowa, by the decision of the State Supreme Court, becomes the first mid-western state, and the third in the country, to allow same-sex marriages. I have long believed that marriage must be defined as a marriage between one man and one woman. To that end, we must pass a federal constitutional amendment defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman. I continue to believe that neither the federal government or any state government should recognize same sex marriages.
As the late Cardinal O’Connor said, a domestic partnership law is legislation that says “marriage doesn’t matter.” The Cardinal was right. Marriage does matter. Our true strength as a nation comes from our families. We must continue to fight by every legal method available to us to preserve the importance of the family as a unit and to amend the Constitution of the United States to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman.
Continuing the Fight
Mike Huckabee

If I could, I would ask Mr. Huckabee what he thinks is accomplished by keeping gays from marrying. Does he imagine that gays will stop being gay, or not co-habitate without the benefit of legally recognized marriage? If the sight of two men living together as a couple is disturbing or threatening to the family, how does lacking a piece of paper change this? Also, if marriage creates stable families, why does Mr. Huckabee prefer to see people live together unmarried rather than married?
I am not gay. If I know gay people I’m not aware of it. But I know that most of my friends and family are not gay. I just can’t see how my life is to be enriched by assuring that people who are different from me are deliberately made miserable. If Mr. Huckabee believes in God, doesn’t he trust God to punish who He chooses, how He chooses? For all we know, God might be judging us by the empathy and compassion we show to those of His children He has made different from the majority.

[...] Anyway, it seems that Governor Mike Huckabee (one of last year’s presidential also-also-rans, remember) is not happy about his state doing this. he says it’s “an attack on the traditional family.” [...]

You are an idiot Mike Huckabee! You say that family matters, but is it only your view of a family that matters and should be considered? YOU have long believed that marriage must be defined as a marriage between one man and one woman, but why should that mean that everyone in the US should be forced to believe the same way? Nobody is going to force you to partner with someone of the same or opposite sex, and no one should ever have the power or ability to do so. Family does matter, and who are we to say what should constitute a family? I’m living in one of the most oppressed countries in the world and to read that there are people in the US trying to impose the same brand of oppression, in the name of THIER God, is totally against the freedoms and rights ensured to every citizen in the US of A by the constitution. The constitution does not need an amendment to force everyone to believe the same way you believe. Do something contructive for the world Mike Huckabee, quit being destructive.

Thank You So Much, MR. HUCKABEE. YOU ARE AMONG THE FEW LEADERS LEFT WITH INTEGRITY . THIS IS A DIRECT ATTACK ON A TRADITION LONG RECOGNIZED FOR WHAT IS….A HOLY UNION BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMAN!!
THESE LAWS SHOULD NO LONGER BE DECIDED BY JUDGES WHO SUPPORT ISSUES THAT REQUIRE THEM TO POSSESS GOOD MORAL CAPACITY . WE NEED TO VOTE ON THESE ISSUES . I AGREE THAT GAYS SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE A LEGAL UNION …TAX ADVANTAGES , ECT. THEY NEEDED TO CALL IT SOMETHING OTHER THAN MARRIAGE!!!! CALL IT CIVIL UNION OR LET THEM NAME IT. THE SECRET POLITICAL AGENDA IS THE REAL BASIS FOR THESE DECISIONS..DESTROY ANYTHING RELATED TO GOD..

JUST TO ADD A LITTLE MORE TO THE POLITICAL DEBATE..ALL MINORITY ISSUES OF THIS NATURE SEEM TO HAVE SOME STRANGE ADVANTAGE. WHY SHOULD THAT BE? DEMOCRACY IS BASED ON THE DECISIONS OF THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE FOR ALL TO RECIEVE EQUALITY. IT TRULY APPEARS IN TODAY’S POLITICAL ARENA THAT GOVERNMENT (ON EVERY LEVEL)IS NOW MORE LIKE DICTATORSHIP… WITH LITTLE OR NO CONSIDERATON FOR IT’S CITIZENS.

Minister Governor Huckabee, surely you are correct. Civil unions between gay people absolutely means “marriage doesn’t matter” as the dead cardinal said. BTW, I’ve followed the Cardinals for years and can’t remember O’Connor. Did he play with Musial in the 50s? Anyway, I’m behind you 100% Minister Governor. My wife and I are scared poopless over this gay marriage thing. It threatens us terribly. It’s just like those gay penguins they found in New York. Those gay penguins absolutely invalidate my marriage like the dead baseball player said. Minister Governor, I know you will do what is necessary on this Iowa thing. But what about the penguins? The whole ### zoo might go gay if they aren’t stopped!!!! Help minister governor, you are our only hope!!!!
