State Sovereignty Bill Will Run in Committee Tomorrow Morning (UPDATE – Passes in second run 11 to 4!)

woods11Rep. Jon Woods passes along that HCR1011, the state sovereignty bill will be discussed by the House Committee on State Agencies and Governmental Affairs on Wednesday morning.  The hearing is scheduled for 10:00 and should generate quite a bit of discussion.  This bill and similar bills in other states have been a rallying point for those at the state level who are fed up with the Federal Government’s expanding role in areas reserved for the states.

UPDATE - I just received this statement from the bill’s primary sponsor Rep. Debbie Hobbs…hobbs1

I am sponsoring this resolution for a couple of reasons: A concerned citizen brought it to my attention that a number of states were filing resolutions asserting states’ rights, particularly Oklahoma. I was convinced that Arkansas needed to file a similar resolution.

Secondly, I am a firm believer in the Constitution and in the freedom of each state to determine its own laws and rules of behavior. Our Founding Fathers believed in a balance between state and federal power. It states very clearly that the powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution are reserved for the states. Our resolution is a strong reminder to the federal government that we are partners in determining what is best for the citizens of Arkansas.

Congress has passed massive bailouts and expanded social programs that will cost the states i.e. taxpaying citizens enormously. Even the money that comes to Arkansas through SFSF funds has strings attached that tell us how the money is to be spent. We in Arkansas know where it will do the most good; the federal government does not.

UPDATE II - According to Rep. Duncan Baird, this failed in committee by a vote of 8 to 10 (03/04/2009.)  I did not know that many state representatives disagreed with the 10th Amendment.

UPDATE III - According to a tweet from Rep. Baird, this one has new life!  It passed on of committee this morning (04/01/2009) by a vote of 11 to 4!

Research – Thanks for visiting my site. I am not completely sure what you are implying but the cosponsor of the bill told me that this bill failed by a vote of 8 to 10. It might get brought back up so maybe that is what you are thinking of. Yes, I am an enthusiastic supporter of Gov. Huckabee. Yes, I support the state sovereignty bill and have done quite a bit to advance it here in Arkansas.

Here is an interview I did with Rep. Jon Woods after the bill failed in committee – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpMbCgZNWeY

Jason’s integrity on this site can’t really be impuned on the basis that research has given. First off, all of the incriminating evidence he has given is presented here on this site. That means that Jason has been forthcoming about it.

I would also like to point out that Jason extensively corrects the posts that have errors. One post made by another contributor had several overt errors and Jason corrected them rather methodically.

The point is, Jason never hid his political views and he operates in an honest manner. To be sure, as an activist his truth is motivated by belief, but then every person who has a cause is biased in their heart. That is why the MSM is having an Obama love fest right now.
